What is a LEV?

A LEV – fully known as Light Electric Vehicle – is a compact, electrically powered mode of transport that enables smart and efficient short-distance transportation. Whether for goods, personnel, or visitors, a LEV facilitates their movement effortlessly and sustainably.

Thanks to their lightweight design, agility, and zero emissions, light electric vehicles are ideal for urban areas, business parks, and enclosed environments such as ports, hospitals, or holiday resorts. Their compact size contributes to reduced traffic congestion and nuisance, making them particularly suitable for city center operations.

LEVs are increasingly recognized as the future of urban mobility. Many businesses are already investing in them or are seriously considering doing so. This is not only due to their sustainable advantages but also because a LEV can serve as a distinctive marketing tool – a noticeable, quiet, and recognizable presence in the urban landscape.

Quiet, efficient, and remarkably versatile: LEVs offer a future-oriented solution for the logistical challenges of today and tomorrow.

What is the L7e Category?

Spijkstaal's LEVs fall within the L7e category: these are heavy quadricycles with electric propulsion. This category is designated for compact vehicles capable of transporting heavier loads than standard mopeds, yet not subject to automotive regulations.

An L7e vehicle combines the benefits of lightweight and agile transport with additional payload capacity and safety – making it ideal for professional use in both urban and confined environments.

BPM on an L7e Vehicle

In the Netherlands, BPM (Private Motor Vehicle and Motorcycle Tax) is applicable to vehicles in the L7e category. This tax is incurred upon vehicle registration.

While electric vehicles are often exempt from BPM, this exemption currently does not apply to L7e vehicles. Consequently, a one-time BPM levy must be considered when acquiring an LEV in this category.

The amount of this tax depends on the vehicle type and its net list price. Therefore, we are pleased to provide personalized advice regarding current regulations and their implications for your specific situation.
